Project summary
This was DPT’s first project for Sir Robert McAlpine after a good reference secured a place in their supply chain. The main element of the contracted works was to replace and upgrade the fire doors in the west arena stairs and south west basement. All of the west arena stair doors formed a part of the new public access route to the hall and the upgraded toilet facilities next to the Heineken bar. DPT supplied and installed panelled walnut stained oak doors, as specified by the architect. The scope also included bespoke fire rated glass screening which required thorough development of the original design to conform with the required fire rating and still match existing. An additional scope was added to the contract to replace and repair doors up on the roof over the dome. All works were carried out while the building remained live, and maintaining the historical protected fabrics surrounding the openings which replacing the doors was an important aspect of the install.
